Talented filmmaker Mark Lahood teamed up with the Taranaki Women's Refuge to create a series of short films showcasing artists whose works will be part of the 2020 Art for Refuge art auction. This is a beautifully crafted film which speaks about the connection my work 'Prelude to a Dream' shares with the goals of the refuge.

The auction will be held on 13th November 2020 at Te Henui Chapel, New Plymouth.

When Shona from the Taranaki Women’s Refuge reached out to see if I would be interested in submitting a piece for their upcoming auction I saw a chance to do some real good for the community through my art. The piece I chose was ‘Prelude to a Dream,’ a work from my 2013 Perth exhibition ‘Flights of Fancy.’ The work spoke to me of the refuges aims - to give comfort, safety and help to those in need. This image reflects that positive aspiration touching on simple childhood pleasures such as the magical ritual of the bedtime story.

The above photos were taken by the lovely Tammie Pittwood for Art for Refuge. Taken in my home and small studio space they beautifully capture a moment where motherhood and artistic calling are no longer so at odds and the promise of a greater return to my art practice is only a whisper away.
